The Dig is based on John Preston's 2007 novel of the same name and tells the real-life story of the 1939 excavation of the estate of Edith Pretty (Carey Mulligan), led by humble amateur archaeologist, Basil Brown (Ralph Fiennes).
World War II brewing in the background, Brown is skeptical about whether there's anything to be unearthed, but Pretty has a strong feeling that the excavation could lead to an important discovery - and she's not wrong.
